In days gone by, the local towns surrounding Croft Mill relied heavily on the various local cotton mills. Fabrics were made in the mills for everything from turbans to first aid, yet sadly almost all of the mills have now closed. There has been an exciting new development in Manchester however, which really is not that far away from us.
English Fine Cottons is investing £5.8 million in bringing cotton spinning to Manchester, to create luxury yarns. The project will be based in Tower Mill, and will create around 100 new jobs in the area. The last mills in the Manchester area closed in the 1980s. We love the idea that cotton spinning is once again featuring in the North; hopefully this will be the first of many mills to be revived.
